Guided Meditation: The Space Between Breaths

Meditating on the space between breaths can have several benefits for your physical, mental, and emotional well-being, including increased focus and attention, reduced stress and anxiety, and improved emotional regulation. Take 7 minutes out of your day to improve your wellness with this short meditation.

Our meditations are best practiced by listening:

If you would like to familiarize yourself with the meditation, here you go!

Sit in a relaxed position with feet flat on the ground and the back comfortably straight.

Take in a breath through the nose if you can to a count of 1, 2, 3, 4. Now slowly and gently release the breath out through the mouth to a count of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Let’s take another one, in 2, 3, 4. Out 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Relax your body, releasing any tension you might be holding.

Now, return to breathing normally, with attention to your breath. Notice the sensation of the air moving in and out of your body. Notice the rise and fall of your chest and abdomen with each breath.

As you continue to breathe, start to focus your attention on the space between your breaths. Notice the moment when your inhale ends and your exhale begins, and the moment when your exhale ends and your inhale begins.

Stay with this focus on the space between your breaths. If your mind starts to wander, gently bring it back to your breath and the space between each inhale and exhale.

As you continue to focus on the space between your breaths, you may start to notice a sense of spaciousness or stillness in your mind and body. Allow yourself to sink deeper into this feeling of calm and relaxation.

Allow yourself to simply be present with your breath and the space between each inhale and exhale. As we’re ready to end the meditation, take a few deep breaths and slowly bring yourself back to the present moment.
